This once again is an article about Brexit as it has been heavily linked with the topic of immigration. The article is about how Eastern Europeans feel about this situation of the UK wanting to leave the EU. Eastern European youth was interviewed about their future, and they all really fear Brexit as they don't know what it will bring for them, whether they have to be separated from their families or if they have to move away to another country. This article raised the issue of the effect racism and xenophobia can have on lives. Many talked about being uncomfortable within their environment because of the fear of xenophobia, and that they didn't know where they belong. Belonging is part of identity, so to not know where one belongs can be negatively impactful on someone life, especially as young as the interviewees. I myself identify with them, as I am unsure of my future and I relate to their struggle of not being able to decide where I belong. I thought about how I adopted certain things that I saw my environment do in order to fit in better. For example, my accent, my use of slang, even the way I dress were things that changed not just for my comfort but also so I fit in better. Yet, I am still left confused about where I belong. I found this article really interesting as I relate and I feel like how Europeans feel isn't represented enough. This helped me come up with the idea of making a documentary about immigration, asking people about their experiences. Also, this helped me in coming up with the idea for my interview.
