Nostalgia Research - Part 1

Because it was such a prominent thing in the theme of my film, I decided to research the topic of nostalgia. I found many things that interested me a lot. They also helped me develop ideas for my film. I thought that by researching nostalgia, I would be able to find a reason why we feel it and the case of having a sense of nostalgia towards a time that we didn't live through ourselves.

This article is about the nostalgia I think we all feel, the type of nostalgia that perhaps doesn't make quite a lot of sense, as we haven't lived through that time which we feel the nostalgia for. It seems many feel similarly about this. The author of the article discussed that we often feel nostalgic for the music that was being played throughout our very early years of life, and this could mean that we feel nostalgic about things that our parents were listening to. Many people like to listen to songs that were popular at their youth, which can lead to some people being brought up on the music of the older generations. Because of this, people might feel nostalgic towards a point in time that they haven't lived through because of the music that they consumed, whether they consumed it because of the environment or their own personal choice. I think this article helped me understand more about the fact that it isn't just a small group of people, like some of my friends and I, but instead a large amount, if not most people in the world that feel this. Even though we don't always realise, but in my opinion, some music from the past we listen to because it makes us feel nostalgic for our parents' youth as some songs we might have heard already, although we might not remember it. It was useful to look at this article as I learnt more about why we might feel nostalgic for a time we weren't alive, and that often, it's because of the music.
